This knife is unique. It has solid billet scales probably of aluminum alloy and they are fitted and adhered to the knife. They do make the knife pretty heavy compared to a normal set of scales. It weighs 4 ounces or about 114 grams. This knife model is closest to a Traveler. The scales do not have slots for the toothpick and tweezers inserts. Wenger makes a similar model in the Esquire size too. These are evidently European issue and were not made for distribution in the North American market making these fairly hard to find and much sought after by collectors.
Edit:Feb. 25, 2017 -- The scales are a brass or bronze base covered with a stainless steel finish. Another collector sanded theirs and exposed the brass colored base metal.

Wenger Esquire - Metal 51 - Octagonal Metal

Here is an unusual Wenger Esquire. It has Octagonal solid metal scales. I am not sure of the model name or identity of the metal. It has a hefty feel to it, but it looks like aluminum. It has the Wenger style cross and shield embossed into the metal as shown. It has the standard blade, nail file, and scissors. There are no inserts or keyring. It is very nice to look at with the 8 facets. Truly a unique and collectible SAK.

Update:5-29-2010; This is a Europe only model called "Metal 51" and you can see the Wenger website for it here at this link. There is also a smooth edge brother to this called Metal 87.
