Vintage Victorinox Ribbed Alox Cadets

This is the older vintage ribbed Victorinox Cadet in red alox. Here is a like new model compared to a well worn model. This is an 84mm sized knife when closed. It has a main blade, secondary small blade(clip pointed on older pieces), can opener, bottle opener and keyring. The shield is a triangular shield and is more often found on Elinox knives(made by Victorinox) that is no longer used except for economy style SAK's. The modern Cadets have a checkered alox scale in a variety of colors while these older ones only come in silver and red alox. These have become more of a collectors item when in such good shape as this one. These older vintage scales can be had in other configurations like a Bantam with cap lifter or combo tool or Voyager with scissors and cap lifter or combo tool. This red alox Bantam is an old Elinox model 2230 r+ from the 1960's era. It has the older ribbed alox scales in red with the triangular shield. Instead of a combo tool this knife has a regular cap lifter unpolished. The front tang stamp is Elinox with the crossbow and the rear tang stamp is Victorinox.

Victorinox Silver Alox Bantam - Old style ribbed scales

This Victorinox Bantam model in silver alox is older, probably from the 1980's era. It has the "Elinox" style shield but the tang stamp is the normal 4 line Victorinox from before 2005. It has the older "ribbed" style scales with straight lines running down the sides. The modern scales are "checkered". One other thing to notice is there is a cap lifter instead of the combo tool and the cap lifter is very thin, almost half the thickness of a normal cap lifter.

Here is an old Red Alox Cadet II model from the 1980's with the ribbed style scales. The Cadet II is a model with the small blade instead of the nail file that the regular Cadet model has. The Alox Cadet models started their lives with these ribbed style scales with horizontally running lines down the sides. The newer scales are checkered just like all the other modern Alox knives that Victorinox makes. The tang stamps are the regular 4 line Victorinox pattern "Victorinox, Switzerland, Stainless, Rostfrei" and the regular rear stamp of "Officier Suisse".

Here is a couple shots of a ribbed early model Victorinox Cadet. This model has a different shield. I have seen it called a "Federal" shield but it looks similar to an "Elinox" shield to me.
What makes this model more collectible is the changes made to the alox scales from the ribbed style as seen here to the modern checkered style seen on newer Victorinox knives. This model was probably made during the late 1970's to early 1980's.
